After breakfast at your hotel in Moshi or Arusha, you will be driven to the Machame Gate located at the entrance of Mount Kilimanjaro National Park. From here, the trek begins through the lush rainforest. The trail gradually ascends, and after approximately 5-6 hours of hiking you will reach Machame Camp, situated at an elevation of around 2,835 meters.
The trail continues through the heather and moorland zones, offering breathtaking views of the surrounding landscapes. The hike is a mix of ascending and descending, and after about 5-6 hours of trekking, you will reach Shira Camp, located at an elevation of approximately 3,750 meters.
Today's trek involves gaining altitude as you ascend towards the Lava Tower, a notable volcanic formation. This will help your body acclimatize to the increasing altitude. Afterward, the trail descends to Barranco Camp, situated at around 3,900 meters. The total hiking time is usually 5-6 hours.
The day starts with a challenging climb up the Barranco Wall, a steep and thrilling section of the route. As you conquer the wall, the trail eases, leading you through alpine desert landscapes. After about 3-4 hours of hiking, you will arrive at Karanga Camp where you will spend the night.
Today's trek takes you to Barafu Camp, situated at around 4,673 meters. The trail is relatively short but steep, and it can take about 3-4 hours to reach the camp. Upon arrival, you will have an early dinner and rest in preparation for the final ascent to the summit.
Shortly after midnight, you will begin the summit attempt, hiking through the darkness towards the peak of Kilimanjaro. The trail is steep and challenging, but the feeling of reaching Uhuru Peak, standing at 5,895 meters, is truly exhilarating. After enjoying the sunrise and taking photos, you will start descending back to Barafu Camp. From there, you will continue down to Mweka Camp where you will spend the night.
The final day of the trek involves a descent through the lush rainforest from Mweka Camp to Mweka Gate. Once you reach the gate, you will receive your summit certificates and celebrate your accomplishment. From there, you will be transferred back to your hotel in Moshi.
